Parish Ministries

Building and Grounds

  • Building Maintenance – participate in keeping the Grace campus buildings safe, clean, and properly functioning.
  • Grounds and Gardening – join with others in maintaining an attractive and welcoming campus to all who come to our Church. Included in the campus are the Church proper, Education and Parish Hall, Memorial Garden, and the Labyrinth.  With enough dedicated volunteers, Grace Church can also operate a modest garden of vegetables and herbs during the growing seasons.

Formation

  • Adult Formation – There are opportunities to serve by leading Sunday Formation classes, book studies, or special educational series. Talk to the clergy about offering your time and energy to this ministry.
  • Children’s Formation – As our population of youngsters grows, so does our need for those special mentors for our young people. Please consider leading them in their Christian development.
  • Nursery Volunteers – Parents of infants and toddlers need time to worship and regain their spiritual center to care for their young families, and a time of safe care for their very young children is a gift of service to them and to their children. As our infant and toddler population grows, there will grow our need for additional help from parish volunteers.

Hospitality

  • Sunday Coffee Hour – This group creates a welcoming environment for conversation and fellowship following the Sunday worship and provide light refreshments.
  • House Eucharist Host – Grace members take turns hosting a midweek Eucharist and potluck at their homes during the summers.
  • Special Celebrations – Opportunities are available to serve the church in providing hospitality for receptions, meals, and similar events to participate in making God’s abundance and joy known.

Pastoral Care

  • Eucharistic Visitors: Eucharistic visitors are lay members of the parish who are specially trained at the parish and licensed by the Bishop to take Communion (consecrated elements/reserved sacrament) to members who are unable to attend worship services. This ministry group is supervised by the Deacon.

Worship

  • Acolyte: Acolytes assist the clergy during worship. There are several roles that acolytes fill: Crucifer (the one who carries the Processional Cross), Torch bearers (carry lighted candles in procession), and Thurifer (prepares, and assists in providing incense during worship) are the three primary roles. Those interested in serving as an acolyte will be provided training.
  • Altar Guild: The Altar Guild assures that everything required for the worship/rite is available for each specific service and is placed appropriately in advance of the service. This group cares for all items used in worship, and maintains the inventory of consumables.
  • Choir: The choir enhances the spirituality of the worship by leading congregational singing, contributing to the chanted worship, and offering anthems. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings. Hear the choir perform:  https://youtu.be/LqdHmtXcKVU?feature=sharedmm
  • Eucharistic Ministers: The Eucharistic Ministers are lay members of the parish who are specially trained at the parish and licensed by the Bishop to assist the clergy in distributing the elements of communion during worship services.
  • Flower Guild: The Flower Guild beautifies the church to enhance the worship experience.
  • Lector: Lectors read the lessons from the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament Epistles during worship. Additionally, they may lead the congregation in the reciting of a psalm.
  • Usher: Ushers greet and welcome all who enter for worship, distribute bulletins, assist with seating, participate in the collection and presentation of the offering, and guide the parish as they move to the altar for communion.
